Trauma and EMDR Therapy

Trauma is an experience where the brain's coping system is overwhelmed with information and is unable to make sense of what has happened. Trauma can be the result of a single event or repeated events. When we experience trauma information is stored differently in the brain than in normal less activating events. The information is stored as sensations and emotions that are separate from the story of what happened. The emotions and sensations can be triggered by daily actions and the brain responds as if the trauma were happening all over again. EMDR helps to organize this information about trauma and make sense of it so the brain is able to store the information in a more organized manner. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation in the form of eye movement, tapping, pulsing or sound to hold awareness of the past event in the present time where safety is experienced while processing the trauma. The basic premise of EMDR is that like our bodies, the brain has a natural ability to process and heal. EMDR activates the brain's natural abilities. The deep connection within the therapy relationship creates a sense of saftey allowing the mind to form new connections, process trauma, and heal the brain, body, and soul.

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

Tracie James is pleased to offer Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy in partnership Illuma for medical services. Illuma will be the prescribing provider and Tracie James will offer a relaxing, enjoyable and safe ketamine experience.

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is the use of prescribed doses of ketamine as an adjunct to psychotherapy sessions. KAP shows significant potential in treating mental disorders such as treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, obsessive–compulsive disorders, post-traumatic stress disorders, and other conditions.

Ketamine produces a trance-like state and mild hallucinogenic experiences that help to reshape the brain.  By flooding the brain with feel good chemicals, normal thought patterns are temporarily arrested and offer opportunity for the brain to rewire and produce lasting change in thought patterns, emotional pathways, and memory consolidation.

Ketamine is safe in controlled environments and offers treatment that is effective and timely.  Ketamine is prescribed by medical professionals and administered by self-dosing in the presence of the therapist who acts as a guide on the journey to self-discovery.

Let Tracie guide you to heart-felt healing using cutting-edge modalities.
